PuraKai TV - 2014 Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge

Welcome to PuraKai TV! This week on PuraKai TV our team heads over to check out the action at the 18th Annual Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge held in Mission Bay in San Diego on January 25th, 2014.

The event had over 500 participants and included OC-1, OC-2, Stand Up Paddle Boards, Prone Boards, Surfskis and Kayaks, as well as several adaptive paddlers racing SUP boards.

PuraKai TV host Erin Lane talked about the event with Event Director Dan Van Dyck and also chatted with several competitors including:

  • 2 Person Outrigger teams from the Newport Aquatic Centers Jr. Outrigger Team.

  • First time prone paddle competitor George Foote, and his sister Bernadette Foote who is a competitive paddler and PuraKai Ambassador. 

  • Rogue Paddleboards Team Rider Fernando Stalla who provides some tips on how the elite stand up paddle racers employ the strategy of drafting.
